I am a retired state-licensed fishing guide, former bass tournament angler, and an outdoor writer, editor and seminar speaker. I recently introduced my 3-year-old granddaughter Kendall Morgan to fishing by taking her on her first 'fishing' trip in my bass boat along with her dad (my son) Joe, also of Mesa.

Before leaving the dock at Saguaro Lake near the Phoenix metro area, I made sure everyone had on a proper fitting life jacket, which has always been mandatory for all whom I have guided during the past 15 years.

Kendall was thrilled to ride in grandpa's boat, especially when 'grandpa went fast,' as she told to her mom and grandma. Now when she visits, she always asks when are we going 'fishing' again. I love being a grandpa.
