Fish Species: Mahi-Mahi (Dolphin)
Weight: 39 lbs.
Length: 55"

Fishing Location: between Rum Cay and Long Island in the Bahamas

Tackle Used: standard offshore pole and reel, lime-colored artificial squid

This is a male mahi-mahi I caught on 100lb test monofilament using a standard offshore pole and reel. I'm standing on the back deck of our 48' sailboat "Endorphins", and he hit just at sundown on April 24th, 2009. I was just getting ready to pull in all the lures for the night when this big boy took a lime-colored artificial squid, and he fought hard about 45 minutes before he tired enough to land him, even with such heavy gear. He measured 55 inches and tipped my scales at 39 lbs. I hooked him while sailing at about 8 knots heading northward between Rum Cay and Long Island in the Bahamas. Talk about great eating!
